At Catalyst Nutrition and Training, we’ll always support our patients in getting healthy in the community we share together.
We recently wrote about seven ways to stay healthy in Wilkes-Barre, just across the North St. Bridge from our Kingston office.
This time, we’re focusing on staying healthy in the city of Pittston, about 15 minutes down the road from Wilkes-Barre. From nutritious eating to exercise opportunities, we’re covering some good spots in this one!
Here are five ways to stay healthy around Pittston, PA!
Luzerne County Rail Trail
The Luzerne County Rail Trail is a gravel and paved path that runs just under two miles along the Susquehanna River from Port Griffith to Pittston Riverfront Park in the downtown area.

The trail is best known for passing through the area of the 1959 Knox Mine disaster. Modern preservation efforts have set up a memorial marking where the river broke into the mine. Hikers can also see a stone marker where 33 of the miners escaped to the surface through the Eagle Air Shaft.
The Luzerne County Rail Trail is a nice way to get some cardio in–whether you’re walking, running, or biking–while learning some history along the way.
If you’re finishing the trail in downtown Pittston, you’re in luck, because it runs directly behind the next healthy spot on our list!
Coffee Inclusive
If you’ve worked up a thirst from walking the Rail Trail, head directly into the headquarters of PA Inclusive, a nonprofit that provides upskilling opportunities for people with disabilities.

Inside, you’ll find a beautiful, newly remodeled space for two of the organization’s businesses, Coffee Inclusive and the just-opened Bake Inclusive!
Coffee Inclusive is a growing favorite for health-conscious folks around Pittston. In addition to drip coffee, espressos, and a variety of teas, it also features cold-press juices with nutrient-rich ingredients such as kale, green apples, and carrots.
You can also get real fruit smoothies and bowls. From the acai immunity smoothies to the protein pleasers, you’ll enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables combined into cool and refreshing drinks that’ll give a boost of nutrition to your diet.
Greater Pittston YMCA
Located right downtown on N. Main St. is the Greater Pittston YMCA, a classic when it comes to getting exercise in.
The Y features a pool with four 20-yard lap lanes, depth ranging from about three feet to more than seven feet, and equipment such as kickboards and aqua belts. This is a perfect opportunity for cardio!
Those looking to build muscle can head into the YMCA’s wellness center to use the treadmills, exercise machines, and weights. If it’s some sporty activity you’re after, the gymnasium is open to all for basketball, pickleball, and fitness classes that you can find on the online schedule.
Overall, the Greater Pittston YMCA is the perfect place to visit for all your exercise and workout needs!
Rikasa
When you’re looking for some fine dining options on a Saturday night, and you want to be sure it’s well prepared, head downtown to Rikasa. This high-class Mediterranean-Italian restaurant goes all out, not just on the ingredients of its food but also on the high-class presentation.
Get an appetizer of tuna tartare or chevalatta (Italian sausage) with parmesan, wine and herbs, and pomodoro sauce–both gluten free, by the way!
Then you can move on to the best Rikasa has to offer, such as its saltimbocca (veal cutlets) with spinach, provolone, herbs, and sauce. Or the penne, shrimp, and crab.
Eggplant parmesan is available as a vegetarian option!
Note that the menu may change from time to time, so check their website for the latest!
Everything about Rikasa is upscale, from the restaurant setting to the classy Rooftop 53 on, you guessed it, the roof. You’ll want to check this one out!
The Salt Barre
The last stop on our healthy tour of Pittston is the Salt Barre, located downtown, in the same building as Coffee Inclusive!
If you really want to work your body and get in shape, the Salt Barre is one place you can do it! This exercise space offers classes in yoga, hot pilates, full-body strength classes in the hot studio, cardio barre, and much more.
You can also attend acupuncture workshops, get salt therapy to refresh your skin and airways, and enjoy multiple types of massage therapies.
Just like the YMCA, you have to ask: if you’re looking to get healthy in Pittston, what’s NOT to love about the Salt Barre?
